I work as a senior researcher at the Institute of Rehabilitation, Jamk University of Applied Sciences. In physiotherapy research I explore digital rehabilitation such as gamification in therapeutic exercise, virtual reality and telerehabilitation. My particular interest is in active aging and evidence-based practice in rehabilitation.

The findings highlight the need for greater affordability and accessibility across Rwanda’s tiered healthcare system, and the potential of digital rehabilitation. These results underscore the importance of advocating for rehabilitation, digital literacy and skills training, and increasing the number of rehabilitation professionals at all levels of the healthcare system.

Community Health Workers and Service Users’ Experiences of a Community-based Digital Rehabilitation Application

The experiences of both community health workers (CHWs) and service users were positive. CHWs clearly saw the contribution to their communities and doing the suggested exercise programs from the application enabled service users to resume their daily activities. The interviews highlighted opportunities to increase rehabilitation access in primary care using innovative digital solutions. Even small improvements in access to evidence-based services have the potential to have a significant impact when scaled to the wider society.
